Shingle Springs Health & Wellness Center
The Shingle Springs Tribal Health Program was established in 1995 to serve both Native and non-Native patients. The program is one of only a few in the county to care for the underserved Medi-Cal and Medicare populations, and also accepts most major insurance. In October 2011, the Shingle Springs Health & Wellness Center opened on the Rancheria offering a wide range of services including pediatrics, primary care, dental, behavioral health and other specialties.

Systems Approach to Tribal Health and Wellness: An Indigenous Perspective
Systems Theory calls attention to the fact that no one organism can exist by itself, in isolation. Every organism and each part of an organism is interrelated with other biological entities. In Indigenous science we extend the relationships to non-biological entities as well and to entities that are both seen and unseen. This is an important difference, again, between western science and the way it views systems theory and Indigenous science.
Composting is Easy
Backyard composting of certain food scraps and yard trimmings can significantly reduce the amount of waste that needs to be managed by the local government or put in a landfill. When properly composted, these wastes can be turned into natural soil additives for use on lawns and gardens, and used as potting soil for house plants. Finished compost can improve soil texture, increase the ability of the soil to absorb air and water, suppress weed growth, decrease erosion, and reduce the need to apply commercial soil additives.
